Former Anglo Irish Bank bankers set to appeal their convictions for financial irregularities

The three former Anglo Irish Bank bankers jailed in July for financial irregularities are set to appeal their convictions.

According to reports this morning the three accused Denis Casey, the former head of Irish Life and Permanent (ILP), and Willie McAteer and John Bowe, both former Anglo executives, will all appeal their sentences after they were found guilty of fraud by forging documents that made the banks figures look €7.2 billion healthier than they actually were.

The three men were allegedly involved in a circular scheme that saw them conduct multi-billion euro transactions in which Anglo moved money to ILP and ILP sent it back to Anglo.
