John O’Donoghue, who resigned as Ceann Comhairle in 2009 following an expenses controversy, has confirmed that he will not be standing as a candidate for Fianna Fáil at the next election.
Mr. O’Donoghue , a practicing barrister, has not been active in politics for some time after he lost his Dáil seat in 2011.
Co. Kerry will be going from two three-seaters to one five-seater at the next election, and Fianna Fáil is expected to run two candidates there.
Mr. O’Donoghue’s cousin, Michael O’Shea, a County Councillor for West and South Kerry, will now run in his place.
