Former Fianna Fáil councillor Gary O’Flynn has been sentenced to three years in prison for charges of solicitation in which ordered someone to kill a garda, a Revenue official and an accountant.

Mr O’Flynn with address of Hayfield Drive, Whitechurch, Co Cork was originally handed a five-year sentence but the last two years of his sentence has been suspended by Judge Sean O Donnabhain at Cork Circuit Criminal Court this afternoon. Mr O’Flynn (39) had pleaded guilty to all three charges brought against him.

Mr O’Flynn had originally served on Cork City Council from Autumn 2003, when he was elected to replace his father, former Fianna Fáil TD, Noel O’Flynn, until he stood down in December 2008. Mr O’Flynn is also facing further charges of mortgage corruption which he is due to receive sentencing for in June.
