Former Taoiseach and Fianna Fáil leader Bertie Ahern has been made a honorary professor in peace studies by Queen’s University Belfast.
According to BBC News, Mr Ahern was given the prestigious honour as part of the Senator George J Mitchell Institute for Global Peace, Security and Justice.
It is understood that Mr Ahern will take part in a number of university projects as well as attending classes and workshops.
Upon accepting his new role Mr Ahern said he was privileged to be given the honour and is looking forward to his new role.
It is expected that Mr Ahern will deliver his first lecture at the University in May.
