
Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Peter Burke indicated that setting a deadline for government formation discussions is not advisable, reports RTE.
While speaking in Tullamore, Co Offaly earlier today, Minister Burke emphasized that establishing a stable government is the main priority, and this process “will require time.”
“A government program is essential for the next five years,” he stated, reports RTE.
“We must ensure it’s guided by policy, which is where Fine Gael’s focus lies,” he continued, reports RTE.
Minister Burke also mentioned that the situation regarding Storm Darragh has been monitored throughout the weekend.
He noted that local authorities are evaluating the damage nationwide, and the government is prepared to assist in addressing the challenges many individuals are facing.
In the meantime, Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin and Fine Gael leader Simon Harris are expected to engage in discussions soon about the formation of the next government, reports RTE.
This morning, both leaders also reached out to Labour Party Leader Ivana Bacik, as her party considers its next steps in the process.
This afternoon, they will hold a parliamentary party meeting to deliberate on entering formal talks with Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael.
Both Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael have appointed their negotiation teams for coalition formation discussions, reports RTE.
