Four fishermen thankfully rescued after fishing boat sinks off West Donegal

Four individuals were rescued after their fishing vessel sank off the coast of West Donegal, reports Breaking News.

The event took place early Thursday morning near Bloody Foreland, close to Magheraroarty.

A distress signal was transmitted from the troubled boat and received by the Maritime Rescue Sub Centre in Malin, reports Breaking News.

Multiple emergency response units reacted quickly and made their way to the scene.

Among those who responded were the Rescue 118 helicopter, the Bunbeg Coast Guard Unit, and the Arranmore lifeboat.

However, the four crew members were ultimately saved by another vessel that happened to be passing by, reports Breaking News.

They were all safely brought back to Magheraroarty Pier.

A representative from the Irish Coast Guard stated, “Just after midnight on Thursday 25th September the Maritime Rescue Sub Centre Malin was alerted to a fishing vessel sinking to the east of Bloody Foreland. The Sligo based Coast Guard helicopter R118, Bunbeg Coast Guard Unit, Arranmore lifeboat and vessels in the vicinity responded. All four persons on board were rescued by a passing vessel and landed at Magheraroarty pier,” reports Breaking News.

This incident coincides with an ongoing search by emergency services for a missing fisherman in Donegal Bay.

That search was prompted by a situation in which a small fishing boat was found grounded near Mullaghmore Head in Co Sligo on Thursday evening, with no one on board, reports Breaking News.
