We’ll catch them: Gardai beg Interpol to help find out just who has threatened Simon Harris

Gardaƭ have requested assistance from Interpol in their investigation into threats made against TƔnaiste Simon Harris, as some of the threats are believed to have come from international extremists, reports Breaking News.

According to The Irish Times, the Special Detective Unit (SDU) has tracked IP addresses linked to the threats and found that certain messages directed at Mr Harris and his family originated outside of Ireland.

Interpol, the world’s largest international police organisation, plays a key role in facilitating global cooperation between law enforcement agencies, reports Breaking News.

GardaĆ have now turned to the agency amid growing alarm over the ongoing nature of the threats facing Mr Harris.

Last week, multiple calls were made to Garda stations falsely claiming there was a bomb planted at Mr Harris’ family residence in Greystones, Co Wicklow.

Separately, a woman from west Dublin was detained two weeks ago after she allegedly issued a threat online to abduct Mr Harris’ children, reports Breaking News.

When asked recently how his family were coping following the threats, Mr Harris replied that they were doing ā€œokay.ā€

“It’s been a pretty rotten time. This was a difficult decision. I mean, generally in politics you’re kind of meant to shrug it off, shut up, move on, get on with it,” reports Breaking News.

“I just felt, in consultation with my family, that we couldn’t do this because of the level of viciousness and the vile nature of the threats targeting my children, very close family relatives, and the sustained, relentless nature of it I think and thought needs to be called out. This is not who we are, these are crimninal acts. Whatever people thinks of anybody’s politics, I’m a democratically elected member of DĆ”il Ɖireann, I’m the leader of a political party, I’m the TĆ”naiste, the deputy Prime Minister of this government, and people are entitled to go about their business, as are their families, free from abuse and criminal behaviour,” reports Breaking News.
