Four Pfizer vaccine trial volunteers developed Bell’s palsy temporary facial paralysis – but FDA denies the vaccine caused it

Four people who received the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine in the company’s trial developed Bell’s palsy, a form of temporary facial paralysis, according to the US regulators’ report on the vaccine.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulators said there was no clear route for the vaccine to cause Bell’s palsy, but they warned doctors to watch out for side effects and stated that that Pfizer should continue to monitor the number of people it affects.

Nobody knows exactly what causes Bell’s palsys, which mostly resolves on its own over a period of time.

This isn’t the first time it’s been linked to vaccines, but the scientists ultimately decided that the injections didn’t cause Bell’s palsy in all but one case: a Swiss flu vaccine taken during flu season sold there from 2001-2002 and then quickly taken off the market.

So far, the FDA has indicated that the number of cases of Bell palsy identified in the Pfizer vaccine study is consistent with the frequency of history of Bell palsy in the vaccine group. They say the vaccine didn’t make Bells Paly show up and that there is currently no clear basis for concluding a cause and effect association, but the FDA will monitor future cases closely.
