Four teens to appear before Mullingar District Court charged in connection with two attacks on two elderly residents in Athlone town

Gardai in Athlone have confirmed they have charged Four teens all between the ages of 15, 16, 17, and 18, in connection with attacks on two elderly residents in the town on 4 August.

It is understood the four youths will appear before a special sitting at Mullingar District Court this morning at 11am. Two of the youths were arrested after an attack took place on taxi driver in the town in the early hours of Tuesday morning, it is believed the man in his 70s was repeatedly stabbed during the assault.

Meanwhile a further two youths were arrested after they threatened a shopkeeper also believed to in his 70’s in the town on Tuesday evening. Gardaí arrested the four youths as part of an operation carried out on Wednesday morning and afternoon.
