
Fine Gael has seen a drop in popularity with less than one week to go before the general election, according to the latest poll of polls, reports Breaking News.
Simon Harris’s party narrowly retains the most public support at just under 22 per cent, ahead of rivals in Fianna Fáil (21 per cent) and Sinn Féin (19 per cent).
Support for Independent candidates, including new party Independent Ireland, has climbed throughout the election campaign to now stand at 20 per cent.

Fine Gael saw a rise in support in recent months following the appointment of Simon Harris as leader.
Following a decline in support under Leo Varadkar’s leadership, Mr. Harris assumed control of Fine Gael in April.
Throughout the year, support for Fianna Fáil and the Green Party has stayed mostly constant at around 21% and 4%, respectively, reports Breaking News.
Support for Sinn Féin has fallen from a peak of 36% in the summer of 2022 to around 19% at this time.
In the meanwhile, in the run-up to the municipal and European elections this year, support for Independent candidates increased dramatically, reports Breaking News.
The anticipated support for Independent candidates and other parties rose by almost nine percentage points to 21 percent from the end of October 2023 and June 2024.
