Free GP cards have been extended to those earning €46,000 or less

People with an average family income of up to 46,000 euros will be able to benefit from a free general practitioner card as part of a new budget measure.

The figure corresponds to the net income of households after taxes. It’s understood that more than 430,000 free GP cards will be issued from April next year.

The Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly said next year’s €23.4 billion health care budget allocation is the highest in the state’s history. He wants Sláintecare’s new public consultancy contract in the coming weeks.
