In a very commendable gesture, French building materials supplier, Saint Gobain, has donated €100,000 to the Peter McVerry Trust today. The monies will go towards providing accommodation to some homeless families.

The funds will be used to refurbish six apartments in a disused building on Pim Street in Dublin 8. The project is expected to be completed by February 2015.

The good news come as Focus Ireland has announced that an additional 42 families lost their homes in November this year and will be homeless for Christmas. The charity have issued a warning today that the Government’s refusal to raise rent supplement is forcing more families into the desperation of homelessness.
