Friday’s election will be a ‘closely fought race’, says tough guy Martin

The Tánaiste has mentioned that Friday’s election will be a “hard-fought contest,” noting that the coming 48 hours will be “challenging,” reports Breaking News.

Fianna Fáil has seen an increase in support according to the latest two opinion surveys, alongside Sinn Féin, while Fine Gael has experienced a decline of two points.

Another opinion survey is expected to be released late on Wednesday.

While emphasizing the policies in Fianna Fáil’s manifesto during the final days of the campaign, Micheál Martin reiterated his stance against entering a coalition with Sinn Féin, reports Breaking News.

Speaking a day after the leaders’ debate, Mr. Martin stated that the election will be a “hard-fought contest.”

“It’s too close to call; I’m not making any predictions, and I think it would be overly premature to do so,” he informed reporters on Wednesday.

When asked if he believes forming a government will take a long time, Mr. Martin replied: “It’s going to be very tight.”

“Let’s face it, I think we’re getting ahead of ourselves. There’s an election to contend with. Much will hinge on the outcome of the voters’ choice on Friday regarding the timelines for government formation and so forth,” reports Breaking News.

He added: “I do believe one of the key objectives or functions of a general election is to enable the creation of a government, and that government must have the capacity to be solid, coherent and to last four-and-a-half to five years. That will enable good decisions to be made, or at least better decisions than short-term decisions or decisions taken by a government that’s looking over its shoulder every week, every month. We need that kind of strength in the Dáil, and that’s the issue that people need to weigh up in terms of decision-making,” reports Breaking News.
