Friends again? Elon Musk ‘regrets’ some posts about Trump, saying they ‘went too far’

Billionaire Elon Musk has expressed regret over some of his social media posts about US President Donald Trump last week, admitting they “went too far”, reports RTE.

Last week, Mr Trump and Mr Musk traded insults online, with the Tesla and SpaceX CEO referring to the president’s expansive tax and spending legislation as a “disgusting abomination.”

On Saturday, Mr Trump declared their relationship was finished but later said he wouldn’t mind if Mr Musk called him to offer good wishes, reports RTE.

“I regret some of my posts about President Donald Trump last week. They went too far,” Mr Musk wrote in a message on his platform, X, reports RTE.

He did not clarify which specific posts he was referencing.

Following Mr Musk’s comments, Tesla’s Frankfurt-listed shares rose by 2.44%.

In recent days, Mr Musk has deleted several posts critical of Mr Trump, including one where he appeared to support impeaching the president, reports RTE.

People close to Mr Musk indicated that his frustration has been easing and that he may be open to mending his relationship with Mr Trump.

Mr Musk’s apology came shortly after Mr Trump issued a warning, suggesting there would be “serious consequences” if Musk retaliated against Republicans who support a divisive spending bill, reports RTE.

Their falling out began with Mr Musk’s strong disapproval of Mr Trump’s so-called “big, beautiful” spending bill, which is currently under debate in Congress.

Some lawmakers opposed to the bill had urged Mr Musk—who was one of the GOP’s top donors during last year’s presidential campaign—to finance primary challenges against Republicans who back the measure, reports RTE.

“He’ll have to pay very serious consequences if he does that,” Mr Trump said on Saturday, also calling Mr Musk “disrespectful,” though he did not elaborate on what those consequences might be, reports RTE.
