GardaĆ searching for missing Kenmare sheep farmer Mike Gaine have set up multiple checkpoints at junctions around the town this morning, hoping to prompt the memories of people who may have traveled those roads a week ago when he was last seen, reports RTE.
In a renewed request for information, gardaĆ revealed that Mr. Gaine purchased phone credit at Centra, Kenmare, at 9:48 am on 20 March.
He then drove off in his bronze-colored RAV4, registration 152 KY 366, which was later found parked in his farmyard, just off the N71 at Carrig East, reports RTE.
GardaĆ stated that Mr. Gaineās family has not had any contact with him since last week.
They confirmed that his case is being treated as a missing person investigation.
GardaĆ have released a still image of Mr. Gaine taken from CCTV footage recorded in the shop at that time, reports RTE.
Yesterday, members of the Garda Water Unit searched several lakes within a 5km radius of Mr. Gaineās home.
Their efforts are expected to continue in the area today.
Speaking in Kenmare this morning, Superintendent David Callaghan, who is leading the investigation, urged anyone who traveled on the road between Kenmare and Mollās Gap on the Ring of Kerry last Thursday, especially those with dash cam or phone footage, to come forward, reports RTE.
“Michael’s family have had no contact with him,” he said. “His family and An Garda SĆochĆ”na are extremely concerned for his wellbeing.”
Detectives are also continuing their inquiries at an incident room established at Killarney Garda Station.
Anyone with information on Mr. Gaineās whereabouts is urged to contact Killarney Garda Station at 064 667 1160, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any garda station, reports RTE.
