Further disruption at the nations schools possible after ASTI vote to reject latest pay deal

There could further disruption ahead at the nations schools in the coming months after the The Association of Secondary Teachers in Ireland (ASTI) rejected the latest amendments to the current Lansdowne Road Agreement.

The news comes as members of the union rejected the latest amendments to the current Lansdowne Road agreement by 51.5% to 48.5%.

It is believed the rejection of the deal comes as members still have growing concerns regarding the issue of low pay for teachers recruited since 2011.

Although the ASTI have said they ate willing to hold further talks regarding the improvement of the deal, it is understood that the union will once again reconvene next month to discuss the possibility of holding further industrial action in the near future.

However the ASTI say any possible action will not be held immediately and there is currently no plans to hold work related stoppages before the end if the year.
