Further flash flooding is expected across the country tonight, according to Met Eireann.
Heavy showers are set to be the cause of flash flooding around the country, but it is unlikely that such conditions will make present flooding worse.
This information comes from Met Eireann who are forecasting heavy scattered showers for this afternoon and evening.
Forecaster Joan Blackburn has said that heavy showers are unlikely to make currently flooded areas too much worse.
“The big thing with showers is it is short periods of intense rain, so yes they could cause some local flash flooding, but when it is not prolonged rainfall it wouldn’t be over the catchment area, it probably doesn’t have a major effect.
“Yes, locally it could, but it would probably go down quick enough.”
