Despite a brief respite in the rain yesterday, more wet weather is forecast for today, bringing an increased likelihood of further flooding.
A status yellow rainfall warning is in place for Cork and Kerry until midnight on Sunday. Rainfall levels of between 25 and 40mm are expected in these counties.
Last night, the Kilganey housing estate in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary, was evacuated amidst fears the river Suir would burst its banks. Water levels held at 3.8mts overnight, just below of the 4mts mark, which would lead to flooding.
It is understood that water levels have risen across rivers Shannon, Blackwater, Erne, Nore, Suir, Barrow, Slaney and Clare over the last 48 hours.
