Met Eireann have issued a Status Orange wind alert for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo and Clare, as gusts of westerly winds may reach up to 110 kilometres per hour this evening and throughout the night.
Large parts of the north and east experienced heavy snowfall earlier today, with Monaghan and Cavan being the worst affected. And more snow is forecast for later today.
Winds will reach storm force tonight on all Irish coastal waters and on the Irish Sea.
Motorists are advised to be extra careful on the roads this evening and tomorrow morning, as driving conditions are expected to be treacherous in many places.
