There has been massive public outcry and anger after the government announced it will place the country on Level 5 lockdown for at least another six weeks from Wednesday with even the most non-thinking consumers of government produced information questioning the logic of the decision.
Already social media has been swamped with stories of small businesses announcing they will be closing for good while tens of thousands apply for the Covid-19 payment.
A growing number of doctors in Ireland are also speaking out against government measures including Newstalk Presenter Ciara Kelly.
Dr Kelly has said that NPHET (National Public Health Emergency Team) are “flying the face of the WHO, who say don’t lock down to get your house in order” indeed
Dr. David Nabarro from the WHO appealed to world leaders yesterday, telling them to stop “using lockdowns as your primary control method” of the Chinese virus.
Going on to say:
“Look what’s happened to smallholder farmers all over the world. Look what’s happening to poverty levels. It seems that we may well have a doubling of world poverty by next year. We may well have at least a doubling of child malnutrition.”
Dr Kelly went on to discuss the fact that the cases will climb again in January and has said that “deaths will be higher as a consequence of our behaviour in 2020”.
Indeed tens of thousands of screenings for diseases such as cancer have been cancelled due to lockdown measures while the unprecedented recession that is sure to hit the country after these lockdowns will also lead to a spike in suicides and deaths of despair as well as breakdowns in mental health.
