Gardaí in Co. Cork are investigating an aggravated burglary that resulted in injury to a pensioner. It is understood that the incident happened in the Farranee area of the city at around 3 a.m. on Monday morning.
It is believed that an intruder forced his way through a window of the property. The intruder then demanded money from the elderly occupant, before fleeing the scene with a considerable sum of cash.
The victim, a man in his 70s, was injured in the incident and he was later taken to the Mercy Hospital in Cork for treatment. Though his injuries are not believed to be life threatening, it is understood that he is suffering from a great a deal of shock. Gardaí at Watercourse Road are investigating.
