Garda commissioner challenged over requests to media to give him riot images

Regarding gardai calls for media outlets to turn over photos from anti-migration public order events in Ireland, Garda Commissioner Drew Harris has been publicly questioned, reports Breaking News.

Mr. Harris responded to worries that the action was endangering riot photographers by stating that it was his duty to look into illegal activity and compile proof.

Following a spike in violence in north Dublin, gardaí have recently requested photos from a number of news agencies, including the PA news agency, in an effort to identify the culprits, reports Breaking News.

Last week, the former Crown Paints plant in Coolock, which has been designated as asylum seeker accommodation, saw multiple fires started and attacks on gardaí.

The most recent demands come as the garda pursued court orders to confiscate photos that media journalists had shot during the Dublin rioting in November of last year reports Breaking News.

The media questioned Mr. Harris over the Policing Authority’s strategy of chasing photographers’ photographs on Thursday after the meeting.

“My obligation is to thoroughly investigate actions which are criminal in their nature,” stated the commissioner, reports Breaking News.
