Garda numbers to be increased as 500 new recruits will be taken on in 2017

The number of Gardai on the streets will increase next year, as 500 recruits are expected to join the ranks.

The recruitment drive is part of a Government’s promise to bring the strength of the force to about 15,000.

This is the third recruitment campaign since September 2014.
