The rift between the well-paid and financially immute political elite and Gardai deepens tonight, as Tanaiste Frances Fitzgerald confirms that those gardai who do not show up for work on Friday will see their pay cut. She also announced that the army will be on standby to intervene in trouble hotspots.
Earlier, the Garda Commissioner issued an executive order for all men and women tasked with upholding the law to be at their posts on Friday, or else face dire consequences.
Last night, a pay proposal was rejected. The country now stumbles down the anarchy road, as neither side is willing to budge.
