Gardai advise people to be on the lookout for bogus ‘ESB’ workers calling into households in an attempt to find out when the house will be vacant

Gardai are this morning warning residents in the Donegal area and elsewhere to watch out for bogus ‘ESB’ workers who have reportedly been calling into people’s homes and asking for details of the property, in a likely attempt to find out when the house will be empty so it can be broken into unhindered.

The conmen are believed to arrive in a yellow van painted to make it look like an ESB vehicle. They then proceed to ask the resident to see their circuit boards, and then begin asking questions as to the times when the house is occupied, so they can come in and do ‘repairs.’

The fake van has recently been spotted in the Carrick area of Castlefin, Donegal.

Gardai advise residents to ask any people calling into their homes for ID before allowing anyone inside.
