Gardai and Customs and Revenue officers have confirmed this evening that over 19,000 cigarettes have been seized at Dublin Airport.
It is understood the majority smuggled cigarettes were that of the Marlboro brand were discovered when Customs search dog, Lottie, aroused suspicion when she detected a scent of a suitcase belonging to Moldovan man, who arrived on a flight from Chisnau via Istanbul.
Gardaí say the seized cigarettes would have had a retail value of €9,500, which would have represented a loss to the Exchequer of around €7,000. The arrested man is expected to appear in court on Tuesday.
