Gardai and staff at Daft.ie are warning prospective buyers and renters to be wary, as a new type of scam has recently surfaced.
An Eastern European gang has been linked to the scam. Using the phone numbers on Daft.ie, gang members posing as Daft.ie staff are contacting landlords via WhatsApp. Landlords then receive a link and are asked to enter their personal details, which the gang then uses to change adverts and contact details.
Prospective tenants are specifically requested not to email landlords, but to ring the foreign numbers entered by the gang.
Gardai are working with Daft.ie to minimize the impact, and are asking people to be careful.
