Gardai appeal for witnesses after adult allegedly grabs 9-yr-old by the throat during hurling match in Tipperary

Gardai is investigating shocking claims that an adult walked onto the pitch during a hurling match and assaulted a 9-yr-old boy.

This document determined that the man allegedly grabbed the helpless child by the throat during a raid in Tipperary County on Saturday afternoon.

“The allegation is that the man walked onto the pitch during a game, confronted a nine-year-old and grabbed him by the throat,” reports the Mirror.

We have ascertained that the boy’s horrified mother witnessed the alleged incident in Thurles – then called the gardai.

Now agents of the Tipperary Town Company have opened an investigation into the incident and, although there have been no arrests, it is understood that they have identified a suspect.

Sources also confirmed that, as part of the investigation, a man showed up on Saturday evening at the Thurles Garda station.

Gardai confirmed to us yesterday that an investigation into an alleged assault was underway, but the officers refused to release further details as the incident involved a minor.

But multiple sources confirmed that the alleged victim was only nine years old.

He was one of dozens of children involved in a Munster GAA youth blitz at Dr Morris Park in Thurles when the incident happened Saturday morning.

A Garda spokesman confirmed that the force was investigating a suspected assault.

He said: “Gardaí at Thurles were alerted shortly after 1pm on Saturday 15th October 2022 following an incident of alleged assault at a sports event in Thurles. Investigations are ongoing. As the incident involves young people, An Garda Síochána will not comment further at this time,” reports the Mirror.

Sources confirmed that the alleged victim did not need medical attention following the incident and no one was arrested late at night.

The blitz was organized by Munster GAA and a spokesperson for that organization confirmed last night that he was aware of the incident and was conducting his own investigation.
