Gardai are treating Bray house fire as arson

Gardai are currently treating a house fire in Bray, Co Wicklow, in which a 55-year-old died, as arson.

The blaze broke out on Oldcourt Avenue at approximately 4.30am this morning. The man who was named as David Costigan was taken from the house by Wicklow Fire Service and CPR was administered, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr Costigan, was in a wheelchair, and was the father of five adult children. Mr Costigan had lived in Oldcourt Avenue in Bray for a number of years.

His body was brought to St Columcille’s Hospital in Loughlinstown this morning where a post-mortem examination will take place.
It is understood a man in his 20s was also in the house at the time of the blaze but was not injured.
Three units of Wicklow Fire Service attended the scene.
