Gardai in Balbriggan have confirmed that a man and a woman have been arrested and charged in connection with a burglary and theft of a car in the town over the weekend.
During the incident an on duty garda was seriously injured. Gardaí say the man and woman are both aged in their mid 20s and are due to appear before Dublin District Court later this morning.
They are currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
