Gardai have arrested a man in his 20s following a shooting incident in the south of the country.
The incident happened on Military Road, Co. Cork shortly after 11.30pm on Friday evening.
The suspect fired a number of shots against uniformed Gardai before fleeing the scene by car. He was pursued by the Armed Support Unit and the vehicle was finally stopped on the toll plaza at the M8 Northbound lane. The man fired a weapon again before being subdued with a non-lethal device.
He was arrested at the scene.
