Gardaí have arrested two members of the Kinahan gang in Dublin this afternoon.

Armed officers stopped a car on the Naas Dual carriageway at 3pm and seized a handgun and ammunition. A 30-year-old man was arrested at the scene.

Gardai subsequently stopped another car on the Long Mile Road and arrested a second man in his 30s.

Both men are being detained under the provisions of section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939 as amended in Dublin Garda stations.

It has been reported that both men are known associates of David Byrne who was shot in the Regency Hotel last year, and gardaí believe the pair may have been on the way to carry out a possible hit in their rivals.
