GardaĆ arrest two people in connection with the brutal assault of an autistic man who was helping a fellow disabled passenger at Bray DART Station

Gardai in Bray have confirmed they have arrested two people in connection with the brutal assault and robbery of an autistic man at Bray DART station.

It is believed that a man in his late 20s was arrested in the Bray area yesterday afternoon but has since been released, whilst a girl in her late teens was arrested this morning and is being held at Bray Garda Station. Gardai say a file has been prepared and has been sent to the DPP.

It is understood the victim, an autistic man aged in his 20s, suffered a broken nose and two black eyes in the disgraceful attack which occurred at approximately 6pm on the evening of Monday April 4. The ruthless thugs are believed to taken his mobile phone during the sickening attack.

Meanwhile the victim’s father told the reporters what had happened on horrific evening, the upset and angry father said that his son normally leaves the train with the crowd, but was trying to help a man in a wheelchair get off when he was viciously attacked as he left the station alone. Since the shocking attack the victim’s father revealed that he has now been going on the train with his son, because he’s so traumatised he’s afraid to travel alone.

He told the reporters: ā€œHe’s autistic, a timid lad and would be nervous. ā€œHe’s kind of always been a bit bullied and had a tough time when he was growing-up. ā€œHe was always brought up to do the right thing – when travelling, move up to the front of the train.

ā€œHe and another man were trying to help the man in the wheelchair on the platform by getting attention from some staff. ā€œThat meant that he was last to leave the station. When he was leaving the station he went out the laneway.ā€ “It was then the attackers set upon him.”
