Today’s search operation by gardaĆ looking into the disappearance and death of schoolboy Kyran Durnin is likely to continue to focus on the back yard of a residence in Drogheda, Co Louth, reports RTE.
Detectives are speculating that the missing child may have passed away more than two years ago. He was last seen in 2022 at the age of six.
The second day of the hunt for the property and the garden that is next to it has begun, reports RTE.
After a shed in the garden was disassembled yesterday, excavation is still on with a mini-digger.
According to the GardaĆ, the search operation’s goal is to find any evidence that might tell them more about Kyran’s whereabouts.
It is acknowledged that the search operation may take many days to finish and that those with ties to the property have been interested in the case for a while, reports RTE.
This is the third time that the inquiry has involved an invasive search of this kind.
Late last year, searches were conducted at two homes in Drogheda and Dundalk, where Kyran used to reside with his family. “Operational purposes” prevented the gardaĆ from disclosing the findings of that search, reports RTE.
A man and a woman were previously detained on suspicion of killing the kid. Both were later freed without being charged.
According to GardaĆ, they have not been able to find Kyran, who would now be eight years old, despite their thorough and continuous investigations to date and the public coming forward with information.
Also, they have acknowledged that they are aware of “speculation, rumours and theories” that are circulating regarding Kyran’s possible fate. They claim that these are not only interfering with their investigation but are also exacerbating the anguish that the impacted families are already going through, reports RTE.
