Over the last two years, the Gardaí have purchased automobiles for ministerial transportation at a cost of about €1 million, reports Breaking News.
Garda records show that 16 new cars, at an average cost of almost €61,000 apiece, had been paid for with a total of €971,556.
The enormous expense resulted from a government decision made in late 2022, a little more than ten years after a cost-cutting scheme for private drivers was initially unveiled, which allocated gardaí to every minister, reports Breaking News.
The alteration was implemented in response to a security assessment conducted by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris and in light of an increase in far-right and racial extremist protests.
The Garda ministerial fleet now consists of 37 vehicles, of which 24 are Audi A6s and the remaining eight are BMWs of various models, reports Breaking News.
