Gardaí in Balbriggan arrest man after he attempted to raid Dublin post office with a gun and hatchet




Gardaí in Balbriggan Co Dublin have arrested a man after an attempted armed robbery at Rush Post Office this morning.

It is understood the man was arrested on the M1 motorway near Swords after he escaped the scene in a red Ford Fiesta.

Gardaí say the man entered the premises armed with what is believed to be a firearm and a hatchet, before he threatened staff and demanded a large quantity of money.

However the assailant did not gain entry to the secure area of the premises and was unable to getaway with any money.

The 30-year-old man was arrested and is being detained at Balbriggan garda station under the provisions of section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
