An 18-year-old girl reported a serious sexual assault against her to Gardaí in Cork.
The girl reported that she was seriously sexually assaulted by a man in Cork City last Saturday evening. The alleged incident is believed to have taken place on the northside of the city.
Gardai spoke to the distraught teen before she was transferred to the South Infirmary-Victoria University Hospital for specialist examination at the sexual assault assessment unit.
Gardai said that she was so distraught following the incident that it was impossible to get a full statement from her at the time. She claims to have been assaulted by an older man.
The girl is expected to give a full statement of complaint today to the Gardaí. Circumstances surrounding the incident are not known yet at this time.
Gurranabraher Gardai are investigating the matter and stressed that forensic reports will form a critical part of their operation.
