Gardai investigation underway after naked man spotted carrying knife as he walked his dog in Cork

The district court in Cork has heard that a member of the public reported to the gardaĆ that they saw a nude man walking his dog down a road while carrying a knife, reports Breaking News.

Judge Mary Dorgan was informed by Sgt. Aisling Murphy that at 4:15 p.m. on April 9th, last year, gardaĆ received a report of a man who was wandering in the nude on Old Mallow Road on the north side of the city. The individual allegedly had a machete in his possession.

According to Sgt. Murphy, gardaĆ arrived at the location and talked with Eric Fitzgerald, who lives in Shaw’s Bridge, Rathpeacon, Cork. She stated that Mr. Fitzgerald, 65, had a boning knife with a 30-cm-long blade in his hands, reports Breaking News.

Garda David O’Donoghue, according to Sgt. Murphy, remained in the patrol car as he awaited help from the armed support team.

ā€œHe (Mr Fitzgerald) continued brandishing the knife while continuing to walk along the footpath on the Old Mallow Road in the direction of the railway bridge and then entered his address. He came out again a number of minutes later, clothed. With the assistance of the armed support unit, Garda John Kerins arrested Eric Fitzgerald for an offence contrary to the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act,” reports Breaking News.

The sole accusation against his client, according to defence attorney Joseph Cuddigan, was possession of a knife. He declared that this was a district court issue.

Judge Dorgan consented to acquire jurisdiction over the case after reviewing the case outline, enabling district court proceedings to proceed.

Judge Dorgan remanded Mr. Fitzgerald on bond, requiring him to return to court on October 2nd. In the interim, the defence will get statements from the prosecution, reports Breaking News.
