According to RTE, a man called in to the post office in Carlow and tried to collect the man’s pension.  He was told that the recipient had to be present and so he was unable to get any money.

Later on, the man came back with someone else and an elderly man who was propped up between them.   When he collapsed, emergency services were called to the scene and they discovered that the old man was dead.

Gardai say they are not sure whether the man was already dead before being brought to the post office.  A post mortem is currently being carried out and a nearby house has been cordoned off as a crime scene while the State Pathologist and the Garda Technical Bureau have also joined the investigation.
