The Gardai have renewed their call for information on the death of Bruna Fonseca, who was killed in Cork on New Year’s Day.

The 28-year-old Brazilian woman was found dead in a flat on Liberty Street in Cork around noon on January 1.

Gardai now wish to speak to anyone who happened to be on Liberty Street in Cork in the early hours of this morning, between 4.30am and 6.30am.

A spokesman said: “Gardaí in Cork continue to investigate the death of Bruna Fonseca whose body was discovered in a residential property on Liberty Street, Cork City, on the morning of Sunday, 1st January 2023,” reports The Mirror.

Fonseca’s former partner has since been charged with her murder.

Miller Pacheco, 29, originally from Formiga, Brazil, resided at Room 3, 5 Liberty Street and appeared before a special hearing in Cork District Court on Monday 2 January.

He was charged in connection with the death of Ms. Fonseca. The court heard Mr Pacheco did not respond when prosecutors placed him on probation. The charge was translated for him by an interpreter.

Mr Pacheco was remanded in custody to appear again in Cork District Court on January 9. It appears via video link. Sergeant Pat Lyons said an interpreter would be needed for the brief hearing.

Originally from Formiga in Minas Gerais, Brazil, Ms. Fonseca was a trained librarian after graduating from Centro Universitario de Formiga in 2018.

She moved to Cork in September last year and worked as a cleaner at Mercy University Hospital.
