Gardaí release the identity of a man who was discovered in Kildare’s Grand Canal over the weekend




Gardaí in Co Kildare have confirmed the identity of a man whose body was found Kildare’s Grand Canal over the weekend.

The victim of what has been described as a brutal murder has been named as Kenneth O’Brien aged 33. Mr O’Brien’s torso was found in a suitcase in the Grand Canal at Ardclough by passers-by on Friday evening. Gardai say Mr O’Brien, who was a JCB driver and diesel fitter, had been reported missing by his family over the weekend.

They also say they are now in amidst of a major murder investigation and that they are running a number of enquiries in the Clondalkin area. Meanwhile Superintendent Gerard Wall who is leading the investigation says the victim was identified using DNA analysis. Gardaí say they wish to speak to anyone who was in or around the Grand Canal near Ardclough on Friday and early Saturday morning.
