Gardai saying people are still going out for “long cycles” which are not allowed due to covid-19 restrictions

Gardai say that they’ll be out in force this week to ensure that only people going to supermarkets, pharmacies, essential work and 2km exercise are leaving their house.

Gardaí across the country are to set up a number of checkpoints in order to halt the spread of the Coronavirus.

A number of reports say that gardai report stopping cyclists who were out for a “long cycle” going much further than 2km from their home.

The checkpoints will aim to stop people from unnecessary travel this bank holiday weekend.

It is understood that the Government has become concerned with the number of people planning to travel to holiday homes over the weekend.

The public are being advised not to travel more than 2km from their home and only to do so for necessary supplies such as groceries and medical supplies.
