According to various sources it is understood that members of the Gardaí have searched around 22 properties around the country over the past 48 hours in a operation to crack-down on organised prostitution.

It is also believed that one man was arrested in Swords during the course of the operation. The operation has been carried out since Thursday morning were gardaí have searched a total of 22 properties including apartments, flats and houses – in Letterkenny, Dundalk, Clonmel, Waterford, Cavan, Mullingar, Limerick, Ballina, Ennis, Newbridge and Cork, along with 11 other locations in the Dublin area.

The move comes following a six-month long investigation by the Organised Crime Unit. Sources also say more than 60 gardaí were involved in the raids during which documentation, mobile phones, computers and money were all seized. It is thought that a number of women at the locations were interviewed by Gardaí and have been offered support and advice. Meanwhile as part of the investigation, a man in his 30s was arrested during the search of an apartment in Swords on Friday morning on suspicion of money laundering.

Gardai detained the man in question at Ballymun Garda Station, but he was later released without charge. Gardai say a file is currently being prepared for the DPP.
