North Dublin gardaí have reported that organised criminal organisations are using scrambler motorcycles for narcotics deals, reports RTE.

In the past ten weeks, thirty-two scramblers have been apprehended; seven of them on the weekend; also, approximately €6,000 in cash and €15,000 worth of narcotics have been taken into custody.

In the last week, narcotics worth an estimated €1.5 million were recovered by Dublin Airport customs and gardaí, reports RTE.

A special operation has been launched by the Gardaí in north Dublin to target scrambler motorcycles that are being driven fast and wheelied on public roads, parks, and plazas by men and youngsters wearing masks.

Scrambler motorcycles have killed and critically wounded a number of people. Last week, one ran a red light and collided with a cab on Balbutcher Lane, gravely injuring the rider, reports RTE.

The threats that scramblers provide to public and law enforcement officer safety have the Gardaí expressing grave concerns.

They claim that interacting with the fast-moving, unauthorised drivers is somewhat challenging. They realise they will probably be unable to stop themselves and will have to be located and apprehended later, reports RTE.
