Gardai to be given considerably more power to clamp down on public not playing by the rules, possibly even entering their homes




Gardai are set to be given a lot more power, possibly even able to enter people’s houses to see if they’re complying with the new restriction rules.

The Cabinet discussed further measures with NPHET which are designed to clamp down on house parties or other large social gatherings as well as more stringent compliance measures for pubs that have reopened since the Covid-19 lockdown.

Government ministers dicsussed the possibility of a second wave the coronavirus as well as recommendations from the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) on issuing new advice for people aged over 70s and vulnerable groups or those with underlying conditions RTE reports.

While considering proposals for limiting social gatherings the government annoucned recommendations that the numbers of people who will be allowed to gather indoors should be reduced to six from three separate households, while outdoor house gatherings should be limited at 15.

The Orwellian restrictions may be increased in months to come as the country enters its normal cold and flu season and after 66 people tested positive for Covid-19 out of 10,587 tests administer in recent days.
