People are being warned by the GardaĆ not to get into a car with an intoxicated driver, reports Breaking News.
178 people have died on Irish roads this year, while 74 more were detained for driving under the influence of drink or drugs this weekend.
Eight people were killed and eighteen people were seriously injured in 18 major crashes that occurred on Irish roads during the Christmas season alone, reports Breaking News.
Between Friday, December 20th, and Sunday, December 29th, these incidents took place.
Chief superintendent of the Garda National Roads Policing Bureau, Jane Humphries, said: “What I would ask is, especially passengers who are getting into vehicles where you know the driver is under the influence, that you need to call them out. You need to say to them that you should not be driving because they’re taking your life in their hands and you’re actually giving them permission to do that by getting into the car with them,” reports Breaking News.
