The Minister for Justice Heather Humphreys has said that Gardai will be required to issue a search warrant in order to obtain phone passwords.
Speaking to RTE News said the new laws are being introduced in an effort to tackle serious crimes such as child abuse economic crimes and corruption.
Humphreys told RTE that the new laws will allow Gardai access to crucial information in a timely and efficient manner.
She added that Gardai would also be required to provide information in court as to why they would need access to an individual’s phone.
