Fine Gael have revealed that they intend on introducing a “pension transition payment” for people who retire at the age of 65.

It is understood the party intend on introducing the payment as part of their pension pathway programme if they the party is re-elected.

Speaking about the move the Minister for Social Protection Regina Doherty said the system would be introduced for those who retire at the age of 65 but do not qualify for the state pension.

Doherty who claimed that there is no dispute over the pension age within her party, said the system would be put in place in order to stop retired people seeking jobseekers allowance between the age of 65 and 67.
