George Nkencho family are suing the Garda Commissioner after gardai shot the thug dead after they couldn’t disarm a knife from him

The brother and sister of George Nkencho, the black man shot dead by Garda outside his house, have filed an assault complaint against the Garda commissioner and the State.

The case was taken to the High Court by three of his siblings and five other family members who arrived at the scene immediately after the shooting.

Nkencho was 27-yrs-old and of Nigerian descent. He was shot dead outside his family’s home in Clonee on December 30, 2020 after allegedly holding a knife. It was also widely reported at the time that there was an alleged altercation with someone in a shop prior to his death. It’s alleged that NKencho broke the manager’s nose of a supermarket in the area with the manager needing hospital treatment.

Many on social media felt that gardai were in fear of their own safety during the incident and that’s why Nkencho was shot.
