The Munich Higher Regional Court has thrown a German woman into jail for 10 years after hearing she did nothing to help a 5-yr-old slave girl die from thirst.
The conviction of the 30-yr-old woman known as Jennifer W. is one the first anywhere in the world related to the persecution of the Yazidi community by the ISIS terrorist group, Islamic State.
The court claim to the conclusion that Jennifer W. was guilty of “two crimes against humanity in the form of enslavement,” along with aiding and abetting the girl’s killing by doing nothing to help her.
According to DW News, the 30-yr-old woman and her ISIS husband Taha A.-J. bought a Yazidi woman and child in 2015. They were kept as slaves in their house while the couple were living in IS-occupied Mosul.
DW reports, “After the girl fell ill and wet her mattress, the husband of the accused chained her up outside as punishment and let the child die an agonizing death of thirst in the scorching heat,” prosecutors said during the trial. “The accused allowed her husband to do so and did nothing to save the girl.”
